Happy New Year & Welcome 2012!

Our Michigan workers comp lawyers want to wish all our readers a happy new year and offer some resolutions for the upcoming year.

We have seen major changes to the workers comp law in 2011. The passage of House Bill 5002 will result in thousands of injured workers losing their wage loss benefits. It is going to be a difficult year for many families who rely on workers comp to survive.

Here are some new year’s resolutions that you can adopt in 2012 to help make the workers comp system better. Together we can still make a difference and bring fairness back to the law.

1. Don’t give up after an injury at work

Employers and insurance companies must be held accountable for their bad actions. If your workers comp benefits are wrongly denied, fight back. Hire an experienced workers comp lawyer who can challenge an unfair decision in court. Insurance companies are betting that you won’t hire a lawyer and will just go away. Prove them wrong.

2. Vote in the 2012 election for candidates who support your interests

The Republicans control the state house, senate, and governor’s office. They pushed these changes through with little concern for your rights. 100 years of workers comp law was pushed aside in just a few weeks. House Bill 5002 was a gift to special interest groups who want to pay less on workers comp claims.

2012 is an election year and we must get these Republicans out of Lansing. If a candidate supported House Bill 5002, vote against him or her. Don’t accept doublespeak or lip service. Actions speak louder than words.

3. Tell your story to 5 friends or family members and ask them to vote

The vast majority of people do not understand workers comp. They think it’s a free lunch for people who don’t want to work. Tell 5 friends and family members about your individual experience with workers comp. Explain how these changes will affect your life. Ask them to support you and vote against the Republicans responsible for this law.
