Worst Insurance Companies In Michigan List – 2012 Edition

Michigan workers compensation lawyer explains the 2012 Notice of Dispute Report and lists the insurance companies with the highest percentage of disputed claims.

It’s that time of year again to select our list of Michigan’s worst insurance companies for workers compensation. We make this determination based upon the percentage of claims that are voluntarily paid and then disputed.

The data is gathered from the 2012 Notice of Dispute Report published by the State of Michigan. The average for all insurance companies is 8.9% for 2012.

Excluded from the 2012 Notice of Dispute Report are claims in which a Form 104A or 104C were filed. This means that these disputed claims were not challenged in court. This tells us that a huge percentage of people are simply accepting insurance company denials and not fighting back.

Worst insurance companies for 2012

Auto-Owners Insurance Company                              Total (432)      Disputed (194)      44.9%

Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co of Michigan      Total (118)       Disputed (49)        41.5%

Farm Bureau General Insurance Company               Total (106)       Dispute (35)          33.0%

These insurance companies are denying claims at a rate three times higher than state average. Insurance companies with few claims and high percentages have been omitted.

How to fight back

Insurance companies must be held accountable for living up to their legal obligations. This is why it’s critical to challenge an unfair decision in court. Don’t be intimidated by claims adjusters or insurance company doctors.
