Raising awareness through education and why insurance company denials under workers comp must be challenged.

The U.S. Congress has designated September as National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. This important resolution was passed to raise awareness and encourage development of better treatments.

Advances in medical treatments are starting to show promise. We recently blogged about electrical stimulation being used to produce voluntary activity in paralyzed patients and a 3D printed vertebra implant used in China.

Our law firm wants to help raise awareness and we think education is the best approach. Here is some information about medical benefits under workers comp in Michigan.

Lifetime medical

Medical care under workers comp is a lifetime benefit. This includes visits to the doctor, surgery, hospital stays, prescription medications and physical therapy. Wheelchairs and other appliances necessary to cure or relieve the effects of a work injury are also covered.

Family members can be paid up to 56 hours per week for providing attendant care. A spouse, brother, sister, child, parent or any combination of these individuals can receive payment directly from the insurance company. A family member is generally entitled to the same hourly rate as a professional.

Home and vehicle modifications are also available. This allows a person to return home and have a safe living environment.

Disputes

Many of our clients struggle to get their medical bills paid. It is a constant battle getting the insurance company to authorize reasonable and necessary medical care. Experimental medical procedures are typically denied outright.

Don’t lose hope if the insurance company disputes medical treatment. Bad insurance company decisions can be challenged and reversed.

Michigan Workers Comp Lawyers never charges a fee to evaluate a potential case. Our law firm has represented injured and disabled workers exclusively for more than 35 years. Call (855) 221-2667 for a free consultation today.
