Public Hearing on Health Care Services Rules

New Health Care Services Rules will affect reimbursement for medical treatment under workers’ compensation.

The Michigan Workers’ Compensation Agency (WCA) has posted notice of a public hearing regarding a rules change. It has been scheduled for November 7, 2014, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, State Secondary Complex, General Office Building, 7150 Harris Drive, Dimondale, Michigan, in the offices of the Workers’ Compensation Agency, First Floor, B-Wing. Written comments can also be submitted until 5:00 p.m.

From the WCA notice: “The HCS Rules are updated annually in order to provide the Agency’s external customers with updated health care fee schedules for reimbursement to providers for treatment of injured workers and to guide providers and payers on the scope of reimbursement. The HCS rules must be updated periodically to maintain consistency with the most recent medical indexes, billing codes and fee schedules published by Medicare and other entities, in a timely fashion.”

We encourage anyone with concerns to attend and make their opinion heard. Reimbursement rates are important as it could limit choice of doctor. Many physicians simply refuse to treat workers’ compensation patients. Unnecessary bureaucracy is also a concern.
