MIOSHA Grant Money Saves Life

A real-world example of how small investments in training and safety can pay big dividends.

safetyfirstWe saw a great story in the June 2015 edition of MIOSHA eNews regarding safety equipment purchased with MiSHIP grant money. The recipient company bought a horizontal lifeline system (and associated training) and it saved an employee when he fell off bridge over a major highway.

MIOSHA awards grants on an annual basis for the development and implementation of safety and health training across the state. It awarded 20 CET grants in 2015 totaling $865,000. Projects ranged from ladder safety to preventing workplace violence.

We applaud MIOSHA for its good work and hope additional funds are allocated for even more grants. Employers can submit grant requests for fiscal year 2016.

Our job as workers’ compensation lawyers is to advocate for employee safety. Workplace accidents are going to happen but many can be avoided with safety and training programs. We hope employers take notice and make their own small investment in their most important resource.
