Workers’ Compensation Agency (WCA) releases magistrate disposition statistics covering period 01/01/16 through 12/31/16.

Statistics provided by the WCA show magistrates gave 18 open awards, 15 closed awards, and 29 denials in 2016.

An open award is when a magistrate orders payment of continuing wage loss and medical benefits. A closed award is when a magistrate orders payment for a specific period of time. A denial results in no payment of any benefits.

Magistrates decide facts and law for each case. Their backgrounds shape how they view witnesses and medical evidence. We believe these statistics are useful when evaluating a workers’ compensation case.
