Americans more likely to die from opioid overdose than a motor vehicle accident.
CBS News is reporting that the odds of dying from an opioid overdose have increased to 1 in 96. Americans are now more likely to die from an opioid overdose than a car accident, from a fall, a gun assault, pedestrian accident, or drowning.
We are shocked by this awful statistic. It shows how bad the opioid crisis has become. This is an issue our clients face head-on and more needs to be done. Here is a reminder about seeking help with addiction.
Many people on workers’ compensation are given opioids for treatment of chronic pain. Addiction is possible even when drugs are used as directed. Lives can be made worse and disability prolonged. Overdose can result in death.
We encourage anyone who is battling opioid addiction to seek help. Addiction treatment is covered 100% without co-pays or deductibles. This includes inpatient and outpatient therapy. Wage loss benefits continue while a person remains disabled from their job. Contact a workers’ compensation lawyer if these benefits are not covered.
Michigan Workers Comp Lawyers never charges a fee to evaluate a potential case. Our law firm has represented injured and disabled workers exclusively for more than 35 years. Call (844) 316-8033 for a free consultation today.
