The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) receives William Q. Wierhdt Customer Service Award.
We would like to congratulate MIOSHA for receiving the William Q. Wierhdt Customer Service Award. This was given in recognition of its small business grant program that provided more than $1 million dollars toward worker protection in FY 2015.
The MIOSHA Safety and Health Improvement Program (MiSHIP) offered matching grants of up to $5,000 to employers with 250 employees or less.
Grant money was used for safety and health programs spurring employers to invest nearly $792,000 of their own private money.
MiSHIP grant money has already paid real dividends for worker safety. We previously blogged about a recipient company using these funds to purchase a horizontal lifeline system that ultimately saved an employee’s life when he fell off bridge.
We congratulate MIOSHA for its good work and hope additional funds are allocated for even more grants in FY 2016.
Workplace accidents are going to happen but many can be avoided with safety training and equipment. We hope more employers take notice and make a small investment in their most important resource.
