Michigan workers compensation lawyer warns of scary insurance company tactics to deprive you of benefits.

Looking for a frightening costume this Halloween? We have several tongue-in-cheek suggestions that you can use.

Here is our list of scary people who might be involved in your workers compensation claim.

Insurance Adjuster as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Our clients tell us how a change in attitude from the insurance company is what triggers them to call a lawyer. When they first start a claim, the insurance adjuster is cooperative and friendly. But at some point, a change in attitude or behavior is noted. Telephone calls are not returned and weekly checks are missing or late. The adjuster may not be as nice as they have been. Some adjusters are even insulting or rude. We call this the Jekyll and Hyde phenomenon.

IME doctor as Dr. Frankenstein

Insurance companies regularly send people to what is called an independent medical examination (IME). This is when the insurance company has you examined by a doctor of its own choosing. The bottom line is that these doctors are not independent.  Insurance companies use the same doctors over and over again because they know what to expect. Many of these doctors make a career out of testifying for insurance companies and earn hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. Dr. Frankenstein will see you now.

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor as Count Dracula

Recent changes to Michigan’s workers comp law allows insurance companies to reduce or stop wage loss benefits if a person is only partially disabled. The insurance company will hire a vocational rehabilitation counselor to perform an employability & wage earning capacity analysis. This report will then be used to cut-off benefits. It does not matter if the person is working or not. This is unfair and must be challenged in court. Don’t let the vocational counselor drain your benefits.

Nurse Case Manager as The Walking Dead

Insurance companies go to great lengths to save money on claims. They will use nurse case managers to influence medical treatment and to manipulate work restrictions. Even against the advice of treating doctors. A person’s health and safety should always come ahead of insurance company profits. Tell your doctor to stand up to brainless nurse case managers.
