Doctor hired by insurance company to perform 1258 independent medical examinations in one year finds disability in every case.
A Michigan doctor has been accused of approving too many workers’ comp claims. He was hired to perform 1258 independent medical examinations and the insurance company did not get what it expected.
“We use the same cut-off doctor for a reason,” said Ms. Crabapple, insurance adjuster.
“He took our money and we still have to pay workers comp benefits – we won’t be using this unethical doctor again,” said Mr. Moneybags, insurance company CEO.
Happy April Fools’ Day!
The truth is that a local doctor did perform 1258 independent medical examinations in one year. He almost never finds work relationship or disability. We have seen this doctor in hundreds of cases and he is an insurance company favorite.
Doctors hired by insurance companies are not what they seem. They are not “independent” and make careers out of testifying in court. It is common for an IME doctor to find no evidence of injury or say a person can return to work without restrictions.
Our clients tell us these examinations takes no longer than 15 minutes. Some individuals are seen by doctors who are not even qualified to give a medical opinion in a specific field of medicine.
Failing to show-up for an independent medical examination is not an option and can result in automatic suspension of benefits. We suggest challenging an unfair medical opinion in court. Testimony from a treating doctor can be used to prove the insurance company is wrong.
