Honoring men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday used to remember the service members who died in the U.S. Armed Forces. Our law firm will be closed on May 28, 2018 in observance.

It is also the unofficial start of summer. Our blog readers are encouraged take some time away from summer activities and exercise their political freedoms. We can think of no better way to honor men and woman who died serving our country. Here are some suggestions on how to get political and make a difference.

1. Pay attention to the 2018 gubernatorial election

We have a big gubernatorial election coming up on November 6, 2018. The governor has enormous power when it comes to the administration of the workers’ compensation system in Michigan. He appoints the agency director, appellate commissioners, and magistrates. He or she also has the power to issue executive orders and sign legislation. Find out where the candidates stand on workers’ compensation and get political. Volunteer, contribute, and vote!

2. Tell your story to friends and relatives

Special interest groups, like insurance companies and big self-insured corporations, use money and power to change workers’ compensation laws. They advocate for reform based upon protecting job creators and eliminating fraud. This has resulted in much less benefits for people hurt on-the-job. It is estimated that businesses have saved $446 million since 2011 changes were rolled out. Fight propaganda with truth! Tell friends and family members about your individual situation under workers’ compensation.

3. Fight back

Many people just accept decisions from insurance companies. It is important to fight back and challenge these unfair denials in court. A magistrate will decide the facts and law. Insurance companies can be held accountable and forced to pay workers’ compensation benefits.
