Many people suffer from mental illness. It can be triggered by workplace stress or a difficult coworker/supervisor. Sometimes dealing with a physical trauma leads to feelings of depression, anxiety, or hopelessness.

Common diagnosis we see in our practice include severe depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Symptoms of feeling hopeless and sad are very common. Some people experience flashbacks and nightmares. Even returning to the job site can trigger an extreme reaction.
Michigan law requires payment of workers’ compensation benefits to individuals disabled because of mental illness. This includes medical treatment without co-pays or deductibles and lost wages. Medical evidence is needed to show a person is suffering from a work-related condition.
For a mental illness to be covered, it must have arisen out of actual events of employment. A reasonable person standard will be used to determine if perceptions are grounded in fact and reality. Individual subjective reaction will also be used to evaluate disability.
