Michigan Workers Compensation Agency (WCA) releases mileage reimbursement rate and how to seek payment directly from the insurance company.

The WCA uses the same mileage rate as the IRS. It is adjusted based upon an annual study of the fixed and variable costs of operating an automobile. The mileage reimbursement rate is now $0.54 per mile with an effective date of January 1, 2016.

Calculating mileage reimbursement is simple. Keep track of all trips to and from medical appointments. Add up the total miles and multiple by .54.

Sometimes insurance companies fail to pay mileage reimbursement. This creates an absurd situation where medical treatment is authorized but the person cannot afford to get to the appointment. Here is some information you should know about your legal rights.

We tell our clients to send mileage requests directly to the insurance company. Certified mail is a great option because it gives you proof of delivery and allows you to seek penalties if not paid within 30 days of becoming due. We have a created a mileage reimbursement form that our clients use.

It is also possible to get reimbursement for travel expenses such as meals and lodging. These expenses are available when you must travel a long distance to get medical treatment. Current meal rates for select cities include $10.25 for breakfast, $10.25 for lunch, and $24.25 for dinner. Reimbursement for lodging is $75.00 plus taxes. More information about your specific city can be found at the link below.
