Why is planning for the future so important to your Michigan workers’ comp settlement?

We previously blogged about New Year’s resolutions and offered three ideas for making your case more successful.

Our third resolution was to come up with a plan for the future. Here is why you need to be thinking about an exit strategy before you even step foot into the courtroom.

Many of our clients suffer from permanent restrictions and end up losing their jobs. Workers’ comp only pays wage loss and medical. There is no pain and suffering.

Benefits are easily stopped when the insurance company says a person is fully recovered or can find a new job. It can take years of litigation just to get a few extra months of wage loss.

We tell our clients to think about the future. Is the goal to find a new job? Is filing for Social Security Disability (SSDI) the preferred option? Having an honest conversation with your lawyer is the key to a great result.

No amount of money can ever compensate a person for a life changing work accident. However, settlement money can be used to greatly improve the situation.

Future wage loss and medical benefits can be traded for a lump sum cash payment. This allows a person to get medical treatment without interference from the insurance company. Settlement money can also be used to start a business or get retrained for a new career.

Do not wait until you are cut-off to start thinking about options. Come up with a plan for the future and seek professional assistance. An experienced workers’ comp lawyer will know how to maximize settlement value.

Michigan Workers Comp Lawyers never charges a fee to evaluate a potential case. Our law firm has represented injured and disabled workers exclusively for more than 35 years. Call (855) 221-2667 for a free consultation today.
