MIOSHA launches new program to increase its presence on blight removal projects and how to file a complaint if an employer is not taking workplace safety seriously.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has announced a new program to increase its presence on blight removal projects. Additional funding was provided by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for blight removal predominantly in the Cities of Detroit and Flint. Focus will be on protecting workers from asbestos, lead, cadmium, silica, heavy metals, and other potential hazards. Read the full press release on michigan.gov.

We think this announcement is great news for workers and businesses around the State of Michigan. Investments in safety pay big dividends. The best way to lower workers’ compensation costs is to prevent workplace accidents.

Statistics from OSHA show 1 in 5 worker deaths in 2014 were in construction. More than half were from the “fatal four,” which include falls, electrocution, struck by object, and caught-in/between. Exposure to asbestos and other toxic chemicals also present real danger.

MIOSHA also has an online complaint form that can be used if an employer is not taking safety concerns seriously. Employees can request withholding of their name to protect their identity.

Michigan Workers Comp Lawyers never charges a fee to evaluate a potential case. Our law firm has represented injured and disabled workers exclusively for more than 35 years. Call (855) 221-2667 for a free consultation today.
