Your Michigan Social Security Disability application
There are many ways you can apply for Social Security Disability benefits in Michigan.
You can apply at your local Social Security office, over the telephone (800-772-1213), by mail or via the Internet.
The claim will be first reviewed by your local Social Security office for non-medical eligibility requirements such as your age, marital status and employment history.
Your claim will then be forwarded to a state agency for the actual disability determination. The state agency will attempt to obtain medical evidence from your doctors and may request that you attend an exam with one of their doctors.
A final decision will be mailed from Social Security within a few months after your initial application.
Here’s information on who qualifies for Social Security Disability in Michigan and how your claim is decided.
