Workers’ Compensation Agency (WCA) releases magistrate disposition statistics for the first quarter of 2015.
Magistrates have given 8 open awards, 7 closed awards, and 5 denials so far this year. These statistics continue the downward trend in number of trials and awards.
A total of 14 open awards were given in 2014. If you include 22 closed periods, less than 50% of claimants actually received some workers’ comp benefits.
An open award is when a magistrate orders payment of continuing wage loss and medical benefits. A closed award is when a magistrate orders the payment of some benefits for a fixed period of time.
