What injured workers can expect from some of the biggest workers’ compensation carriers in Michigan.
Insurance Journal has posted a list of insurance companies with the largest market share of workers’ compensation premiums in the United States.
According to the article, these companies saw solid gains in 2014 thanks in part to premium increases and favorable claims frequency. This was the fourth consecutive year the industry reported improvements.
We thought it would be interesting to compare some the largest insurance carriers against Michigan’s Notice of Dispute Report. This is an annual publication by the State of Michigan that shows the number of claims voluntarily accepted and later disputed. It excludes claims in which an Application for Mediation or Hearing was filed so litigation is not a factor.
The average for all insurance companies in Michigan was 8% for 2014. However, some insurance companies have rates exceeding 20%.
