Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) publishes hospital ratings and what this means for injured workers in Metro Detroit.

laptop and stethoscopeWe saw a fascinating article in NPR about a new hospital ranking system published by Medicare. Hospitals are ranked on a 1 to 5 scale based upon 64 metrics.

These ratings have been criticized as it gives worse scores to hospitals that take on tougher cases with generally poorer outcomes. It also does not consider cutting edge care that some hospitals do not even offer.

NPR points out that several of the nation’s best-known hospitals are getting poor scores. See how large Metro Detroit hospitals rank and what you need to know about choosing a medical facility under workers’ compensation.

Industrial clinic

Michigan law requires payment of medical for individuals hurt on-the-job. It is common for employers to require treatment at an industrial or employer clinic. Some of these medical facilities only care about saving money and provide sub-par care. We have seen many clients diagnosed with strains or sprains when their condition is actually much worse.

Select your own doctor

Employees hurt at work can select their own doctor after 28 days. This includes choosing a medical facility or hospital. We recommend selecting a doctor who will support your claim and has your best interests at heart.
