National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) releases iOS App to fight hearing loss.

NIOSH has released its Sound Level Meter app for iOS devices. This mobile application is a tool that can measure sound levels in the workplace and help prevent occupational noise-induced hearing loss.

According to NIOSH, 22 million workers are exposed to hazardous noise levels each year. Current apps lack the accuracy and functionality necessary to conduct occupational and general purpose noise measurements. This tool will raise awareness and help people make informed decisions about potential hazards to hearing.

We applaud NIOSH for creating this app. Small investments in technology can pay big dividends when it comes to employee safety.

Hearing Loss

We have represented many clients who suffer from occupational diseases such as noise-induced hearing loss. It is a common problem for individuals working in loud environments. Symptoms of ringing or buzzing in the ears are typical.

Insurance companies frequently dispute these claims because it can be difficult to say with 100% certainty that hearing loss or tinnitus was caused by employment. Claims for hearing loss should be made against the last employer who exposed the person to the loud environment.

Michigan workers’ compensation is supposed to pay for all medical treatment. It is very important to find a doctor who specializes in hearing loss and will support your claim.

We represented a man from Monroe, MI who lost his hearing at a very young age. His employer did not believe it was caused by employment and benefits were denied. After the deposition of his doctor, the insurance company ultimately settled the case agreeing to pay for lifetime hearing aids.
