Workers’ Compensation Agency (WCA) releases magistrate disposition statistics for first quarter of 2017.
Magistrates decide the facts and law for each case. Their backgrounds shape how they view witness testimony and medical evidence. We believe these statistics are useful when evaluating a case for settlement or trial.
Statistics published by the WCA show magistrates gave 1 open award, 2 closed awards, and 9 denials so far this year. This period covers January 1, 2017 until March 31, 2017.
An open award is when a magistrate orders payment of continuing wage loss and medical benefits. A closed award is when a magistrate orders the payment of some benefits. Denials result in no workers’ compensation being paid.
