Workers’ Compensation Agency (WCA) releases magistrate disposition statistics covering period 01/01/17 through 12/31/17.
Statistics provided by the WCA show magistrates gave 10 open awards, 21 closed awards, and 28 denials in 2017.
An open award is when a magistrate orders payment of continuing wage loss and medical. A closed award is when a magistrate orders payment for a specific period of time. A denial results in no payment of any workers’ compensation benefits.
Magistrates decide facts and law for each case. Their backgrounds shape how they view witnesses and medical evidence. We believe these statistics are useful when evaluating a case for settlement or trial.
