WCA releases updated Health Care Services Rules/Fee Schedule and what medical providers need to know when billing workers’ compensation insurance.
The WCA has released updated Health Care Services Rules and Fee Schedule with an effective date of January 8, 2019. Highlights include updated source document listings and conversion factor. Also, new definition and rule language regarding Telemedicine services.
All medical providers should familiarize themselves with these rules when billing workers’ compensation insurance. Michigan law requires medical providers accept payment based upon the fee schedule. Balance billing is not permitted. All charges must be submitted to the insurance carrier on a proper claim form, usually a CMS 1500.
Medical providers who are not getting paid under workers’ compensation can file their own Application for Mediation or Hearing. We recommend coordinating with the attorney representing the patient. Sending the patient to collections or filing a direct lawsuit is counterproductive and usually results in less money being recovered.
