Why cost should never be a factor when choosing a workers comp attorney in Michigan.

We frequently get questions about attorney fees and what can be charged.  We want you to know your legal rights so that you can be successful with your case. Here is some information about how much it costs to hire an attorney for your workers comp case.

Workers comp cases are typically handled on a contingency fee basis. This means that you will not pay a dime unless you are successful with your case. Don’t let the fear of cost deprive you of hiring a great attorney.

An attorney who takes your case on contingency will also typically advance costs and expenses.  This is important because it can cost thousands of dollars to get your case ready for trial. Some of these costs include paying your doctor and a vocational expert for their expert testimony.

Insurance companies and employers spend big money on their attorneys and some are even retained before you get hurt. You need someone on your side who can level the playing field.

Maximum Attorney Fee In Michigan

The fee is 10% if you settle while workers comp benefits are being paid. The fee increases to 15% of the first $25,000.00 and 10% on the remainder of any settlement if your benefits have been disputed.

You can be charged 30% of your back pay if workers comp benefits are paid through a compromised voluntary payment agreement. The same 30% fee applies if you win your case at trial.

Sometimes a case is settled after trial and the fee is a flat 20%.

Why it pays you to hire a comp lawyer

The insurance company knows the odds are in its favor if you represent yourself. An experienced workers comp attorney is always going to get a higher settlement. The money you must pay for an attorney will always be offset by the increased settlement amount.
