Workers injury lawyer in Michigan reminds you about the importance of updating your case information.
If you have been listening to the radio this summer you probably have heard the Carly Rae Jepsen song called “Call Me Maybe.” The lyrics got me thinking about some of our clients who tend to disappear after their workers comp case has been filed.
It’s very important that you keep your lawyer updated with your current medical and vocational information. We recommend that you make contact every 45-60 days.
Here are some of the items that we need to know about.
Treating doctors and work restrictions
Resolution of your workers comp case can take several months. It is likely that you will be seen by several medical providers during this period of time. It is absolutely critical that you advise our office if you see a new doctor. This is especially true if you are seen by a surgeon or other specialist. If your work restrictions are changed, we need to know immediately.
Unpaid medical bills
We ask our clients to keep a running total of unpaid medical bills. It is extremely helpful to keep a separate sheet of paper listing each creditor and the amount owed. Attach a copy of the bill and keep one for your records. Please do not send duplicates as this makes things much more confusing. This will allow your lawyer to have a good handle on what medical bills need to be paid if your case is settled.
Return to work and job search efforts
The amount of wage loss benefits that you receive will depend upon your ability to work. If you have returned to your old job, we need to know immediately. We must also know about any attempts to find alternate employment. This information is important because the insurance company will say you can work but are not trying hard enough. A job search proves you are making an effort.
Address and telephone number
We must be able to reach you if something important happens in your case. If you move or change telephone numbers, contact our office immediately. Also provide an alternate contact such as a relative or friend.
