Tip #1: Send in a copy of your health insurance card.
Private health insurance pays disputed medical bills. This includes government programs like Medicaid and Medicare. Reimbursement will be required if you recover workers’ comp benefits. Having a copy of your insurance card on file makes it easier to obtain subrogation information and speeds up the settlement process.
Tip #2: Itemize out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Many of our clients have out-of-pocket medical expenses. This includes medical bills that were paid with cash, co-pays, and deductibles. These out-of-pocket medical expenses can be recovered through a settlement. It is important to itemize these amounts on a separate piece of paper and attach supporting documentation. We have seen clients get discouraged when their workers’ comp claim is disputed and stop treatment. This is a big mistake because you need continuing proof of disability. Tip #5: Update address and telephone number.
We need to be able to reach you if something important occurs in your case. Make sure to notify our office of any changes to your address or telephone number.
