Five tips from our paralegal on how to speed up resolution of your case and ensure a fair workers’ comp settlement.

We have a great staff of professionals to help with your Michigan workers’ comp case. Our paralegals are some of the best and know how to get your case resolved. Here are five tips that can help speed up resolution and ensure you obtain a fair settlement.

Tip #1: Send in a copy of your health insurance card.

Private health insurance pays disputed medical bills. This includes government programs like Medicaid and Medicare. Reimbursement will be required if you recover workers’ comp benefits. Having a copy of your insurance card on file makes it easier to obtain subrogation information and speeds up the settlement process.

Tip #2: Itemize out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Many of our clients have out-of-pocket medical expenses. This includes medical bills that were paid with cash, co-pays, and deductibles. These out-of-pocket medical expenses can be recovered through a settlement. It is important to itemize these amounts on a separate piece of paper and attach supporting documentation. Send this to our office every 30 days.

Tip #3: Ask more questions about your job search.

Performing a good-faith job search could make or break your workers’ comp case. Make sure to ask your lawyer how to look for jobs and what proofs you need at trial. Send job search logs to our office every 30 days. We can provide additional job search logs on request.

Tip #4: Keep your doctor appointments.

We have seen clients get discouraged when their workers’ comp claim is disputed and stop treatment. This is a big mistake because you need continuing proof of disability. Make sure your lawyer knows about current doctors and what treatment been recommended. Even paying cash for an office visit every few months can help.

Tip #5: Update address and telephone number.

We need to be able to reach you if something important occurs in your case. Make sure to notify our office of any changes to your address or telephone number.
